In Paris 2003 did he win in a close race ahead of Julio Rey, Spain and the later Olympic Champion Stefano Baldini
Gharib did win in CR 2:08:31. Julio Rey used 7 seconds more, and Baldini 2:09:14
In 2005, when he regained his championship did he finish in 2:10:10, while nr 2 Isagwe, Tanzania used 2:10:21 and the bronzemedalwinner Ogate, Japan used 2:11:16
