Abebe Bikela started the African domination on Marathon, with his great Victory in the Olympics in Rome 1960
He was completted unknown before the race. A few weeks before the Olympics had he run 2:21:23
He beat the russian Popov's WR with 1 second, and run 2:15:16
He won ahead of the Maroccian Runner Abdesselem 2.15.42, and Barry Maggee 2.17.18
He will allways be rememberede because he run barfooted
He was the first to win the Olympic Marathon twice, when he 4 years later won in Tokyo, with a new WR,2:12:11
2 were the british WR holder Basil Heatley 2.15.19 and the Japanese Kokichi Tsuburaya 2.16.22 In Mexico did he try to win 3 in a row, but he wasn't at his top, and didn't finish the Race
In 1969 he was impliceded in a car accident, and after that he was paralysed, and the rest of his life did he spend in a wheelchair
He died in 1973
