He had earlier during the Games in Mexico won silver at 10000 M after Naftali Temu. Kenya
In the thin air in Mexico did he win in the time 2:20:26 and won ahead of Kenji Kimihara Japan 2.23.31 and Michael Ryan New Zealand 2.23.45
He also competed 4 years later in München, where he won bronze
In 1993 was he arrested for being against the Ethiopian dictatur, where he was in jail for 9 years until his trial, where he was judge 6 years prison
He was released but died shortly after
