In one of the clossest Olympic Marathon ever did Josia Thugwane Sout Africa win with 8 second ahead of Eric Wainaina
The winnig times was 2:12:36
Then he was was the first black South African to win an Olympic Marathon
As many of the others African runners did he have a short carriere
He got his break through in 1993 when he won the Southafrican Championships and in 1995 Honolulu Marathon
In 1997 did he win in Fukuoka and made National Record 2:07:28 and was 3rd in London
The nest few years did he run Halfmarathons and in 1998 did he win The Great North Run and was second in The Great Scottish Run
He tried to make a comeback at Marathons in 2000, but disappointed at the Olympics in Sydney where he only wqas 20th.
After that he stopped running
