The American Frank shorter broke the Ethiopian dominans, and won in Münich 1972.
He was the first American since London 1908, to win an Olympic Marathon
He won in the City, where he was born, as his father was an American Soldier
Shorter did win in the time 2:12:00 ahead of Karel Lismont Belgium 2.14.32 and the Olympian Champion 4 years earlier Mamo Wolde 2.15.08
Shorter tried to defend his title 4 years later in Montreal, but was beaten byCierpinski
